Abstract
Abstract:

Background and aim: Due to many controversial data regarding to possible risk factors for elevated prevalence of Non-Carious Cervical Lesion (NCCL), we conducted the current study for investigating the possible modern lifestyle pattern on occurrence of NCCLs.

Methods and Materials: 450 patients were selected randomly, and intra oral examination for detecting the NCCLs were performed two calibrated dentists with inter-evaluator reliability. Afterward, participants completed the questionnaire asking demographic, oral hygiene regime, medical conditions, diet, parafunctional habits, and some lifestyle data. The obtained data were statistically analyzed using independent T, Chi-square, Mann-Whitney U, and Logistic Regression tests (α=0.05).

Results: the NCCL prevalence was 28%. Four factors including age, as using antidepressant drugs, brushing force, and bruxism significantly affect the occurrence of NCCLs (P= 0.047, 0.0001, 0.0001, and 0.0001 respectively). Whilst the gender, occupation, education level, income, acidic food/beverage intake, screen time, sleeping duration, time of sleeping at night, and gastroesophageal reflux/nausea were not significantly effective.

Conclusion: Understanding risk indicators of NCCLs is crucial for preventive program. Some medical conditions, demographic, or habitual risk factors are more important.
